The Club

The Bowmen of Skelmersdale are a small independent archery club based in Skelmersdale. We are self-insured and are not affiliated to any national associations to keep membership affordable.

Skelmersdale and Dalton Cricket Club provide us with a safe outdoor space for experienced members to practice at any time throughout the year. Over the warmer months they also host our club training sessions on a Wednesday evening.

During Autumn and Winter the club Wednesday meets are held indoors at Hope High School.

Most of our archers shoot for fitness and fun, although other independent clubs run competitions our members can participate in. Some of our members are also in other archery associations and use the club facilities for convenient local practice.

Experienced archers can shoot any style of bow, including recurve, compound and longbow, but we encourage new archers to begin with recurve bows.

The club provides bows and all necessary equipment to those attending beginners courses.

Joining The Club

New archers should complete a beginners course. Experienced archers familiar with GNAS style shooting and safety procedures are accepted at the discretion of the coach.

Membership Cost

Membership fees are £55 per year.

Weekly Session Cost

• Wednesday evening outdoor sessions at the Cricket Club are free to members.
• Wednesday evening indoor sessions at Hope High School cost £5 to cover hall rental.

Anytime Practice Cost

Members (minimum of two people for safety) can use our outdoor range at any time for a small fee paid to the Cricket Club (£6 total per session, regardless of the group size or time spent shooting).

All members are keyholders.

Practice Facilities

Our outdoor range has traditional straw roundels for distances out to 100 yards and sufficient space for shorter clout practice. We also have access to the adjacent private field with rougher terrain for field target shooting at ground level.
